School Uniform

All students in Years 7 - 11 must wear the school uniform: black blazer with school badge, black trousers, black skirt for girls, white shirt with tie (each year has a different colour stripe), a black
v-neck knitted jumper, black shoes and a plain black coat. The School PE uniform is very straightforward and must be provided to each PE lesson. It is a plain white T-shirt, black shorts, black track suit bottoms, black sweatshirt, white socks and training shoes. The school uniform has been approved by the
Governing Body. Students are expected to be smartly dressed at all times.

Continuing Professional Development

The structure for professional development at Crown Woods School underpins the work of the staff and forms an important part of the drive towards high achievement. A learning culture is inherent in all that we do. Students and staff are engaged together in continuous development and improvement, seeking to achieve maximum potential and exceed expectations. Parents, carers, governors and other members of the
community work with us to support this objective. We improve performance in teaching and learning through constant research, review and evaluation, ensuring that our development work is informed and appropriately challenging. The professional development structure of Crown Woods School has been completely revised. The framework for professional development provides a holistic and comprehensive approach to teacher education and training which takes a career-long view of professional development.
Crown Woods School is a ‘learning community’, utilising professional development as a keystone of enhanced performance and therefore school improvement. Professional development at Crown Woods operates in six separate stages:

1. Initial Teacher Education
2. Newly Qualified Teacher Induction
3. Subject Leadership
4. Threshold Standards for Performance Related Pay
5. Advanced Skills Teachers
6. Leadership Standards for Aspiring Headteacher

The new structure for professional development reflects the national strategy for Continuing Professional Development. Investment in the professional expertise of teachers at Crown Woods School is an opportunity to attract staff of the highest calibre, as well as enhancing the educational provision for students by those already in post. CPD and Inset day programmesprovided at Crown Woods School include:

a) Whole School Twilight Inset : focused on targets in the school improvement plan
b) BT/NQT professional studies programmes:a year long course of seminars which can also be attended by other colleagues
c) Middle Management Training
d) Specialist programmes:
i) Advisory groups
ii) Teaching & Learning
iii) Assessment
e) Induction for new teaching staff
f) Support staff induction and appraisal
g) Induction package for supply staff These are supplemented by courses provided by the LEA and other external agencies.
