Welcome
From the Headteacher
May I take this opportunity to welcome you to Crown Woods School, which is a large mixed comprehensive on a very pleasant green field site.
Our pastoral structure allows us to organise and group students more discreetly in order to ensure that no one individual feels lost in the school. Indeed, it is our prime concern to ensure that every student feels an integral part of this school where her/his individual gifts and talents are recognised and developed.
Crown Woods is at an exciting phase in its development with a clear focus on raising standards in an ordered and disciplined environment. It is also a school that encourages creativity and independence. It is our clear objective to contribute significantly to the development of independently thinking, clear minded, responsible members of society who have the qualifications to take whatever opportunities arise. Our objectives will be further enhanced by the re-building of the school over the next three years. The school will provide state of the art, cutting edge facilities supported by the most advanced technology and focussed on providing an outstanding experience for all students.
Students are grouped by ability throughout the school. This provides the maximum opportunity for teachers to focus on the student’s individual needs in order to ensure progress for all. The express stream caters for those students who are gifted and talented right across the curriculum. We offer a broad, comprehensive curriculum in our 6th Form which is located in a newly remodelled and separate building on the site. Our school day allows us to work with focus and pace and to provide a comprehensive programme of extra curricular activities (approximately 100 extra lessons each week) to enrich and extend the educational opportunities at the school.
Yours sincerely

From the Chair of Governors
It gives me great pleasure to share with you some of the experiences Crown Woods School has to offer young people and their parent’s and carer’s as they consider the next steps in their education. My association with the school goes back as far as 1969 when I started my education at the school. My children now attend in Years 10 and 12. I hope therefore, I am able to relate to the enormous importance in the decision you are currently contemplating for your child.
Crown Woods is a large school on a large site and I believe that with size comes more opportunity for our young people that come to the school. It is an exciting place to be involved in as it not only offers the resources and variety of a large school but also continues to prove itself to be dynamic and responsive to individual needs. The professional and dedicated approach by all the staff and the very high standards of leadership within the school underpins everything that goes on each day within the school. The Osted inspection in the autumn term confirmed the good progress that the school has and will continue to make.
The local authority have just given planning approval for the new school and I hope that you will take time to study the plans and drawings of the new school when you visit us. Crown Woods is an inclusive and transformational place to be and I hope that you will decide to join us on what is and will be a very exciting journey for everyone at the school.
I hope you enjoy looking and reading our prospectus and if you have not already visited the school that you will arrange to do so.
Yours sincerely
Mr T. Taylor
