Welcome from the Principal
A welcome letter from the school Principal..
Crown Woods College is a school based on the principles of ‘Human Scale Education’. Pupils learn better in smaller schools, where the curriculum can be more effectively personalised and individual needs met. The college comprises of four ‘home schools’. Three are for pupils aged between 11 and 16 and the fourth is our post 16 school. Each school has a total roll of 450 pupils, its own Head and team of staff.
Pupils are allocated to one of the three schools based on aptitude, ability, skills and interests. Our curriculum is diverse and allows for an accelerated curriculum and early examination entry, a very broad range of courses and a focus on core subjects of English, Maths, Sciences, Humanities and Languages, as well as a very broad high quality vocational offer which includes construction, health and social care, sport and business. Our objective is that every pupil should make outstanding progress in subjects that suit them, that they enjoy and that will challenge them. The small school model allows for much greater support and challenge as every teacher knows every pupil and personally cares about their achievements.
We have a full range of enrichment classes which include competitive and non competitive sports, debating, homework clubs, additional examination classes and art, drama and music activities. We have an orchestra, a gospel choir, regular music concerts and art exhibitions. Education extends beyond the classroom and we offer a wide range of trips and activities throughout term and holidays. This includes French and Spanish exchange trips, skiing, New York trip, science week and outdoor education pursuits.
High expectations of behaviour underpin all our work and we use a ‘rights and responsibilities’ framework and home-college agreement to support our vision ‘our community, your success’. We encourage active participation of parents in our small schools and we have thriving parent and teacher forums.
We have excellent facilities, which include an inclusions hub, 18 ICT suites, portable laptops, a large restaurant and landscaped gardens with nature reserve.
We are one of the most improved schools in the country in 2012 and have sustained these improvements in 2013. We would be really pleased to meet prospective parents at our open events in September 2014.
